Each month for the challenges I try and think of something that either I havent done yet or have been too scared to try. A few months ago at a PMQG meeting my friend mentioned that she was making a quilt using leaders and enders.
I normally use a "safety blanket" when I sew. Its usually a scrap that is picked off the floor. The safety blanket helps prevent fabric from being pulled down into the bobbin area and getting all chewed up.
I pulled out the scrap bin and started cutting out tumblers. I have a bunch of them in this basket sitting next to the sewing machine.
Instead of using the safety blanket Im going to start on a scrap tumbler quilt. So this months challenge is to start a leader/ender project. This takes a bit of prep work depending on what you decide to make but this is a great way to sew 2 projects at once.
Let me know what you're going to make with your leader/enders...half-square triangles? postage stamp quilt? log-cabin quilt?
I've chosen 1/2 square triangles and will be making placemats with the finished pieces. I had lots of orange scraps from the Tangerine Tango Challenge and this seemed (pardon the pun) like the best way to make good use of them. Can't wait to see your finished product!!!
ReplyDeleteI read about leader/enders a while back over at Quiltville. At the time I thought it would revolutionize my quilting. I even picked a project. I haven't been able to get myself going on the prep work though. Maybe you will re-inspire me!
ReplyDeleteI had to look up what leaders and enders are before I even started thinking. I don't do a lot of chain piecing so this one may be a challenge. I have been thinking of making a scrappy quilt though.
ReplyDeleteI have a sapphire Viking so I don't need leaders or Enders but what a fabulous idea!! Thank you for sharing!
